UGREEN Is No Longer Just a Cable Company

UGREEN sells a NAS now. A full network-attached storage device with its own operating system, app ecosystem, and dedicated hardware team. If that surprises you, you haven’t been paying attention to what this company has become.

Founded in 2012 as a cable manufacturer, UGREEN went public on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange in 2024 with a valuation north of $2 billion. Their Nexode GaN charger line outsells Anker in several Amazon categories. They ship to over 200 countries. And they did all of this in about twelve years, starting from a warehouse in Shenzhen making USB extension cables.

Brand Story

Zhang Qingsen founded UGREEN (绿联) in 2012 with a straightforward thesis: cables and adapters were commoditized hardware, but the brands selling them on Amazon were charging premium prices for basic engineering. He could do the same quality for less, and scale through cross-border e-commerce.

The timing was right. Amazon’s marketplace was booming, AliExpress was opening up global logistics, and every laptop maker was about to switch to USB-C, creating massive adapter demand. UGREEN rode that wave hard. By 2015 they were on Amazon US, UK, Germany, and Japan. By 2020 they had offices in multiple countries and were doing over $500 million in annual revenue.

The Nexode charger launch in 2022 was the inflection point. GaN technology was still new enough that brand loyalty hadn’t solidified. UGREEN came in with aggressive pricing, solid engineering, and a product lineup that directly challenged Anker’s Prime series. It worked. The Nexode became a best-seller on Amazon US within months.

Then came the NASync NAS line in 2024, which was a different kind of bet entirely. Not an accessory, not a commodity – a platform product with ongoing software development. That move signaled UGREEN’s ambitions go way beyond cables.

What They Do Well

GaN chargers that actually compete with Anker. The Nexode 200W desktop charging station is UGREEN’s flagship, and it’s a statement product. Six ports, 200W total output, charges a MacBook Pro and an iPad simultaneously at full speed. Macworld reviewed it and called the eight-port version a solid desk companion. At $60-70, it undercuts comparable Anker stations.

The thing is, UGREEN doesn’t just have one good charger. The entire Nexode line – from the 45W travel plug to the 200W desktop station – is consistently well-reviewed. That kind of lineup depth is something only Anker could previously claim.

USB-C hubs that don’t thermal throttle. This is where UGREEN quietly built a reputation. Their Revodok hubs use aluminum housings with actual thermal management, not the plastic shells that plague Amazon’s hub market. The 7-in-1 and 10-in-1 models handle 4K60Hz output without dropping frames or overheating. CalDigit still wins on port count and Thunderbolt support, but UGREEN is a third of the price.

UGREEN Revodok 7-in-1 USB-C hub

A NAS line that’s actually ambitious. The NASync DXP series launched in 2024 and surprised the storage community. UGOS, their custom Linux-based OS, is rough around the edges but functional. The hardware is solid – Intel N-series processors, 2.5GbE standard, 10GbE on the higher models. Synology and QNAP have decades of software maturity that UGREEN can’t match yet. But at half the price for equivalent hardware specs, UGREEN is forcing the incumbents to justify their margins.

Where They Fall Short

UGOS software is immature. The NASync hardware is genuinely good for the price. The software is not there yet. Missing features, occasional bugs, limited third-party app support compared to Synology’s DSM. UGREEN is iterating fast, but if you need a NAS that works perfectly out of the box today, Synology is still the safer bet.

Too many SKUs, confusing naming. Revodok, Revodok Pro, Revodok Max, Nexode, Nexode Pro, Nexode RG. UGREEN launches new products faster than they retire old ones. Figuring out which USB-C hub to buy requires cross-referencing spec sheets. Anker has the same problem, but UGREEN’s naming convention makes it worse.

Honestly, the cable quality – their original core business – is just okay now. Not bad, but the market has caught up. A $10 UGREEN USB-C cable isn’t meaningfully better than a $7 Amazon Basics one. The value proposition has shifted to their more complex products: chargers, hubs, and NAS.

Best Products to Buy

1. Nexode 200W Desktop Charging Station (~$65)

Six ports (4x USB-C, 2x USB-A), 200W total output, 140W max single-port. Charges a MacBook Pro 16" at full speed. The desktop form factor means it replaces your power strip for devices. GaN keeps it compact. At this price, it’s the best multi-device charger on the market.

2. Revodok 7-in-1 USB-C Hub (~$30)

HDMI 4K60, 2x USB-A 3.0, USB-C data, SD/microSD, 100W PD passthrough. Aluminum body, no fan, doesn’t overheat. The 7-port sweet spot gives you everything most people need without the bulk of a full docking station. Solid build quality for a $30 hub.

3. NASync DXP2800 2-Bay NAS (~$230 diskless)

Quad-core Intel N100, 8GB DDR5, 2x 2.5GbE, M.2 SSD cache slot. For a first NAS or a home media server, the hardware is overkill at this price. The software is the caveat – UGOS gets monthly updates and is improving, but check the current feature set against your needs before buying. If you mainly need file storage and media streaming, it’s ready.

4. Nexode 65W GaN Wall Charger (~$22)

Two USB-C ports, 65W max, foldable prongs. The travel charger that replaces your laptop brick. Smaller than Apple’s 67W adapter, half the price, charges just as fast. Probably the single most universally useful UGREEN product.

How to Buy

Amazon – UGREEN’s biggest Western channel. Official brand store with full warranty. Prime eligible. This is where most people should buy. Prices are competitive and returns are easy.

ugreen.com – Their direct store often runs flash sales and bundle deals that beat Amazon pricing. Shipping from China warehouses takes 5-10 days. Worth checking during product launches.

AliExpress – Lowest prices globally, especially for accessories and cables. UGREEN Official Store is verified. Best for bulk cable orders or products not yet available on Amazon.

Best Buy – Select Nexode chargers are now stocked at Best Buy US. Limited selection but instant availability and in-store returns.

The Bottom Line

UGREEN’s trajectory from cable factory to publicly-traded tech company is one of the better brand-building stories in Chinese consumer electronics. They didn’t try to out-premium Anker – they matched the quality and undercut on price, consistently, across every product category they entered.

The chargers are their strongest line right now. The hubs are a close second. The NAS is ambitious but early. And the cables that started it all are fine but no longer special.

If you’re building a desk setup and your budget matters – and it should, because overpaying for chargers is a waste – UGREEN belongs on your shortlist. Not because they’re cheap. Because they’re good enough that the price difference stops making sense.
